Charlotte Gleason is a young English socialite on the verge of marrying an American man that she does not know ~ all to help her family’s financial situation. Her soon-to-be fiance provides passage for her and her lady’s maid Dora, to travel to America so they can meet. While on the ship, Charlotte and Dora hatch a plan to provide Charlotte a way out of the marriage ~ the girls trade places and Dora assumes Charlotte’s identity when they get to New York.
Before long, their plan starts to fall apart. Will they be able to keep up the masquerade and not hurt anyone in the process?
My Thoughts
The historical detail of Masquerade by Nancy Mosher is wonderful and really pulls the reader into that period of history. Learning about the workhouses, crowded tenements and what life was like for many of the immigrants new to America was almost heartbreaking at times.
While a few parts of the book seemed to move rather quickly, the book overall was a fun read. Both of the girls develop much as characters and learn what it means to trust God and follow His guidance in their lives.

I like fun reads! Also, I am interested in learning about those times. My father's ancestor came to America with his mother and the only job he could find was to lead a horse around and around all day long to grind some grain. Finally, He worked himself up to a better job over and over again, he worked hard but looked for better employment each time.

My book came! I was just about to get in the bath... I have strep throat (first time and it stinks!) and thought I should check the mail and see if the book is here before I get in... and there is was. Thank you so much. I'm going to go relax in the tub and start reading.
