A few days ago I read about a challenge to read through the Bible from a blogging friend and it piqued my interest immediately. In the past I’ve started {and stopped} and haven’t sat down and read it completely.
Although I seem to have no problem reading other books from cover to cover {ahem}.
While taking an entire year to read through the Bible seems overwhelming to me, somehow 90 days {despite there being more to read each day} seems much more manageable. Go figure…
I’ve started on my reading and am amazed at some of the nuggets that I have missed, despite reading some of these passages many times before ~ and that excites me to keep reading and find out what else I’ve missed.
If you are interested in learning more about the challenge, you can read more about it at Mom’s Toolbox. You can also download your own printable reading bookmark if you want to join along in the challenge.
I’m hoping to post weekly on my progress and the verses that spoke to me each week. I’d love to know if any of you are joining in the challenge too ~ so leave a comment so we can chat more!
Jolanthe, I'm doing the challenge too. Like you, I found doing it in 90 days more manageable. I guess part of the fun is trying to do it in less time. Keeps me more motivated.
ReplyDeleteI'm really excited to read it this way. I've never read it cover to cover, and I can already see how reading it like that an accelerated rate will make it more like a story, which I think will give me a different overview.
You're right...90 days does seem more "doable..." Why is that? I may try to join in on that...sounds fantastic!
ReplyDeleteoo I am so game!! Going to read the site right now and get started.. I had planned on reading it this year.. but 90 days seems more like a commitment I can make :-P
ReplyDeleteYou go girl! I like the idea of 90 days better too so I'll have to think about that.
ReplyDeleteI'm participating too! I have tried reading the Bible through in a year, but I always get bogged down and discouraged when I get behind. I am excited about this 90 days intensive...I think I'll do better with that!
ReplyDeleteI might have to consider this. I started a "Bible in a Year" program a couple of years ago and never made it past the month of March.

ReplyDeleteI too have failed the yearly plans, and have joined in. I'm excited about this challenge!!! Loved the idea and looking forward to it. I'm fixing to blog about it too.
ReplyDeleteI am registered for it too! I think it is going to be a great challenge and it looks like an awesome group shaping up!
ReplyDeleteHi Jolanthe. Thank you for putting this on your blog... otherwise I may not found this activity. Its a long time since I read the Bible. I needed this challenge and encouragement.

I am participating too. Like you and several others who have also commented here, 90 days seems much easier to me too. i can already see how Satan is trying to distract. So while I am not able to do most of mine in a single sitting I am getting it done. i am already fascinated about the new things I am seeing. I just read Genesis with my daughter in teh fall so it isn't even like it has been that long. God's word is amazing : )
ReplyDeleteAmazing as always
ReplyDeleteYour blog keeps getting better and better! Your older articles are not as good as newer ones you have a lot more creativity and originality now keep it up!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the food for thought, Jolanthe. Last year, I did the one-year Bible for the first time. This year, thought not up for the 90-day challenge, I am reading it in one year - chronologically.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
nice post. thanks.
ReplyDeleteGreat article! Well stated!!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to try it! Thanks! A little late - but I'm starting!
ReplyDeleteI am doing it too! It really sounded more doable for me too. 365 days of bits and pieces was never a fun thing for me. Too long and drawn out.
ReplyDeleteI just had a baby 8 weeks ago and also have a 4 yr old and 2 yr old. That being the case my body is still in 'wake up in the night' mode. So when I wake to nurse (or pump) I read. It is great undistracted time. I don't even think about the pile of unfolded laundry or the dishwasher that needs to be emptied! I am even 2 days ahead!
