Those Pesky Phonics...

The English language just has too many rules to follow.

Period.

As we go along with our spelling lessons {and mind you our kids are doing really well} there are always a few hang-ups on sounds and spellings.

On the bright side, she does remember how to spell the word 'you'.

  1. Oh how funny! And she's right, at least where I was yesterday - it was more than just humid - it was HYOUMID!

i love writing, i somehow learned this language...God only knows how. a good teacher i suppose...i was homeschooled until grade six. :0) thanks mom.

but now, practicing spelling words with my kids, when a rule applies 95% of the time, but that other 5% it doesn't---ARGH!

hope your day is not hyoumid! but is humorus!

  7. I noticed this the further in our English classes we got. The rules are always changing and there are always exceptions to those rules.

    Ah missing simplicity somewhere.
